SUMMARY:HPC User Forum Special Event: Smarter Networks\, Smarter MPI: Improving MPI User Experience & Cluster Performance
DESCRIPTION:MPI is a crucial part of HPC applications and spans the entire stack — from the MPI library itself\, to the runtime environment\, to interfaces\, to memory and networking hardware\, processor hardware\, and more. While any one of these elements may be relatively easy to manage\, it takes a dedicated expert team and considerable time to understand and optimize all the inner workings\, control options\, capabilities\, performance analysis\, versioning\, and hardware capabilities\, and optimize them for each workload. \nWhat if\, instead\, the network becomes smarter so it can provide greater transparency and enable tighter coupling between the MPI and network layers to improve performance through routing\, congestion control\, topologies\, and new approaches to networking? \nThis special HPC User Forum event included a  panel of experts discussing how the potential of creating a smarter network could improve the user experience of MPIs such as MVAPICH and Open MPI. \n\nDr. John McCalpin – Research Scientist\, Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)\nDr. Dhabaleswar K. (DK) Panda – Professor and University Distinguished Scholar of Computer Science and Engineering\, Ohio State University (OSU)\nDr. Ryan Grant – Assistant Professor\, Queens University\nMatt Williams – Chief Technology Officer\, Rockport Networks\nMark Nossokoff – Senior Analyst\, Hyperion Research – Moderator\n\nPresentation: Smarter Networks\, Smarter MPI \n\nDownload PDF\nVideo

SUMMARY:The Shift from Legacy Storage Solutions to Modern Data Platforms
DESCRIPTION:Until relatively recently\, HPC workloads have been characterized by the needs of the engineering and scientific community largely around modelling and simulation. Applications such as CFD\, crash analysis\, seismic exploration\, reservoir modelling and climate simulation drove similar requirements for the systems they run on. The advent of big data and AI/ML/DL\, however\, has seen new requirements being placed on all elements of the HPC infrastructure\, compute and storage alike. A transition is underway from legacy storage solutions to modern data platforms\, not only to satisfy the traditional modeling/simulation workloads but also heterogeneously support the newer AI/ML/DL workloads. \n\n\n\nSpeaker\nRepresenting\nPresentation\nVideo\nPDF Download\n\n\nAll\nHPC User Forum Special Event\n \nPlay Video\n \n\n\nMark Nossokoff\nHyperion Research\nModern Data Platforms\n \nDownload PDF\n\n\nMark Nossokoff\nHyperion Research\nHPC Market Update and Observations on Modern Data Platforms\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nShimon Ben-David\nWekaIO\nWeka Data Platforms\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nKevin Tubbs\nPenguin Computing\nBreaking Data Silos to Support Mixed Workloads\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nJames Lowey\nTGen\nScale Requirements for Modern Workloads\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nPanelists\n\n\nMark Nossokoff\nShimon Ben-David\nFrederick Van Naren\nKevin Tubbs\nHerb Ahmuty\n\n\nPerspectives on Modern Workloads\nPlay Video\n \n\n\n\n[divider line_type=”Full Width Line” line_thickness=”2″ divider_color=”default”]

SUMMARY:360 Degree View of Big Memory for HPC
DESCRIPTION:Since 1969\, the Von Neuman architecture has dominated memory infrastructure. Big Memory Computing transforms expensive\, scarce and volatile memory\, into a lower-cost persistent memory tier that can eliminate the need for memory extension to storage. On Thursday\, December 10\, analysts\, vendor technologists\, and university researchers shared a 360-degree view of Big Memory Computing for HPC. \n\n\n\nSpeaker\nRepresenting\nPresentation\nVideo\nPDF Download\n\n\nAll\nHPC User Forum Special Event\n \nPlay Video\n \n\n\nMark Nossokoff\nHyperion Research\nHPC Market Update and Observations on Big Memory\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nDr. Charles Fan\nMemVerge\nBig Memory Software for HPC\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nAndrey Kudryavtsev\nIntel\nImpact of Intel Optane Technology on HPC\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nKevin Tubbs\nPenguin Computing\nLiveData\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nDr. Gene Cooperman\nNortheastern University\nCheckpoint the Uncheckpointable\nPlay Video\nDownload PDF\n\n\nEarl Dodd\nWWT\nPreparing for and demonstrating the Next-Gen Big Memory Lab\nPlay Video\n \n\n\nAll\nPanel\n \nPlay Video\n \n\n\n\n[divider line_type=”Full Width Line” line_thickness=”2″ divider_color=”default”]
